A big acknowledgement for Dale who has achieved Gold Coast to Cooktown in 12 Days. Below is a recount by Dale of his overall journey and what made him want to undertake this Challenge.
The journey was essentially to define my limits of endurance and a learning experience trying to emulate race conditions as opposed to laid back touring ride. There were a few milestones in this trip such as doing more than a thousand kilometers per week for two weeks and riding essentially the same distance from Cairns to Cooktown of 325km in one day at the very last day of the journey.
In my thirty years of cycling, I now have ridden the whole Queensland east coast (Coolangatta to Cape York) and partially NSW east coast (Sydney to Tweed Heads) only the Southern coast to go and the top end but that will be completed in the next thirty years. Many people are asking for the statistics so here it is:
Distance Mt. Nathan Gold Coast to Cooktown Grassy Hill : 2,163 km
Total time: 12 days 21 hours 20 minutes
