About Volunteering for the Cardiac Challenge 2011
The Cardiac Challenge is an annual bike ride from Cairns to Cooktown held in September. It is the major fundraising event for the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation. All funds raised remain in the Far North and are directed to the purchase of specialised equipment and services for the Cardiac Unit of the Cairns Base Hospital.
The Cairns Base Hospital services the Cairns and Hinterland District Health Service District which covers an area of about 142,900 km2 from Tully and Cardwell in the south to the Daintree in the north and west to Croydon. The population of this area is about 221,000.
As the referral hospital for the whole of Far North Queensland, Cairns Base Hospital serves a broader population of about 250,000.
The coordination of the ride relies on the dedicated support from a fantastic team of volunteers dedicated to the wellbeing and safety of the riders and the support / families who participate in the ride.
It is fun, rewarding and it loves people like you!
